The Williams Lake & District Chamber of Commerce 

 29th Annual Business Excellence Award

Fill out the nomination form to recognize a Williams Lake business, Williams Lake business person, or to shine a spotlight on your own business success story.

The nomination form should take between 5-10 minutes and we ask that you select answers the questions to the best of your knowledge.

We also ask that you provide a brief description of why the business or business person is deserving of a nomination. This could be in the form of a personal experience, insight into the business/person that is deserving of recognition, and so forth.

Nominations are open from March 15th-Oct 1st 2026

All businesses are eligible for the “Business of the Year” Award

Entrepreneurial Excellence

Criteria: Recognizes businesses under 5 years old that has demonstrated outstanding entrepreneurial spirit during its early years of operation. The business shows innovation, calculated risk taking, strong growth potential, and a clear vision for the future. The nominee demonstrates leadership, adaptability, and the ability to identify opportunities in the marketplace.

Examples of what judges may consider:

  • Launching a new business that fills a gap in the local market
  • Introducing an innovative product, service, or business model
  • Demonstrating strong early growth in revenue, staff, or market reach
  • Successfully overcoming startup challenges or economic barriers
  • Building strong brand recognition in a short period of time
Greatest Improvement

Criteria: Recognizes a business or organization that has made significant improvements. Improvements may include growth, operational changes, customer service, facility upgrades, rebranding, or recovery from previous challenges. The focus is on measurable progress and positive transformation.

Examples of what judges may consider

  • Major improvements to customer service or customer satisfaction
  • Renovations, modernization, or upgrades to facilities
  • Business turnaround following financial or operational challenges
  • Implementation of new systems, technology, or processes
  • Significant growth in staff, services, or market reach
Not-for-Profit Excellence

Criteria: Recognizes a not-for-profit organization that demonstrates strong leadership, community impact, and effective delivery of programs or services. The organization shows responsible management, collaboration, and meaningful contributions to the well being of the community.

Examples of what judges may consider

  • Programs or initiatives that address important community needs
  • Strong volunteer engagement and leadership
  • Measurable positive impact on the community
  • Partnerships with other organizations or local businesses
  • Effective use of resources and sustainable operations
Newsmaker of the Year

Criteria: Recognizes an individual, business, or organization that made a significant impact in the community through noteworthy achievements, leadership, innovation, or events that generated strong public attention during the past year.

Examples of what judges may consider

  • Major accomplishments that gained media or community attention
  • Leadership on a significant community initiative
  • Launch of a project or development that had broad community impact
  • Advocacy or actions that brought positive attention to Williams Lake
  • A milestone achievement that influenced the local business community
Professional & Trades Service Excellence

Criteria: Recognizes a business or professional whose primary focus is delivering services rather than selling retail products. This award celebrates skilled trades, professional services, and personal service providers who demonstrate expertise, professionalism, and outstanding customer care.

Examples include trades, personal services, health professionals, consultants, and repair or maintenance services.

  • Strong reputation for quality work and reliability
  • High standards of professionalism and ethical practices
  • Strong client relationships and repeat business
  • Ongoing training, certifications, or skills development
  • Contribution to the local economy through skilled services
Tourism & Hospitality Excellence

Criteria: Recognizes a business that delivers exceptional visitor experiences and contributes to promoting Williams Lake as a welcoming destination. The business demonstrates outstanding hospitality, service quality, and commitment to tourism development.

Examples of what judges may consider

  • Providing memorable guest or visitor experiences
  • Promoting Williams Lake and the Cariboo region to visitors
  • Innovative tourism products, packages, or experiences
  • Strong customer service and visitor satisfaction
  • Collaboration with other tourism partners or events
Production & Manufacturing Excellence

Criteria: Recognizes a business involved in production, processing, or manufacturing that demonstrates operational excellence, innovation, and economic contribution to the region.

Examples of what judges may consider

  • Efficient and effective production processes
  • Innovation in manufacturing methods or products
  • Job creation and workforce development
  • Contribution to local supply chains and economic activity
  • Commitment to quality, safety, and sustainability
Hugo Stahl Memorial

Criteria: Recognizes an individual who has shown long-term dedication to improving the Williams Lake community.

Examples of what judges may consider

  • Displays leadership
  • Positive Attitude and encouragement toward volunteerism
  • Community involvement
  • Positive influence
Retail & Customer Experience Excellence

Criteria: Recognizes a retail business that provides an exceptional shopping experience through customer service, product selection, store environment, and community engagement.

Examples of what judges may consider

  • Outstanding customer service and staff engagement
  • Attractive, welcoming, and well organized retail space
  • Unique or high quality product offerings
  • Creative merchandising or in store experience
  • Strong customer loyalty and community support
Lifetime Achievement

Criteria: Recognizes an individual who has made a long lasting contribution to the business community and the broader community over many years. The recipient demonstrates leadership, integrity, mentorship, and sustained impact.

Examples of what judges may consider

  • Decades of contribution to local business or economic development
  • Leadership roles in business, community organizations, or public life
  • Mentoring and supporting other entrepreneurs or professionals
  • Long standing reputation for integrity and community service
  • A legacy of positive impact in Williams Lake
Ken Wilson Chamber Business of the Year (Judge’s Choice Award)

Criteria: This award recognizes a Chamber member business that demonstrates exceptional leadership, strong business performance, and a meaningful commitment to the Williams Lake and District Chamber of Commerce and the local business community. This award is not open for direct nomination. It is selected by the judges from among the Chamber member businesses nominated in any award category.

Examples of what judges may consider

  • Active involvement and support of the Williams Lake and District Chamber of Commerce
  • Demonstrated leadership within the local business community
  • Contribution of time, sponsorship, or volunteer support to Chamber initiatives or events
  • Positive business reputation and commitment to community engagement
  • Acting as an ambassador for the Chamber and the Williams Lake business community
Business of the Year (Judge’s Choice Award)

Criteria: This award recognizes a business that demonstrates overall excellence in leadership, operations, growth, and community contribution. It highlights a business that stands out among all nominees as an example of strong business success and positive impact in the Williams Lake and District community. This award is not open for direct nomination. It is selected by the judges from among all businesses nominated in any award category.

  • Strong contribution to the local economy
  • Demonstrated growth in revenue, services, or employment
  • Consistently high standards of customer service
  • Innovation in products, services, or business practices
  • Positive workplace culture and support for employee development
