On September 4, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, the Signal Point Pioneer Room hosted a highly productive Recruitment & Retention Planning Session, organized by the Williams Lake & District Chamber of Commerce, the City of Williams Lake, and the Cariboo Regional District. This collaborative event brought together 38 community members to discuss strategies for attracting and retaining new professionals in Williams Lake.

Participants engaged in interactive brainstorming sessions to identify the key features that make Williams Lake a unique and attractive place to live and work. Some of the most frequently mentioned highlights included:

      • Location: Its central position in the region, offering a rural lifestyle, short commutes, and access to an airport.

      • Job Opportunities: Strong connections to employment, career-building, and professional growth.

      • Education: The presence of a local university campus, providing higher education and learning opportunities.

      • Outdoor Activities: A diverse range of outdoor activities, including skiing, mountain biking, fishing, and hiking, ideal for adventure enthusiasts.

      • Family & Community: A neighborly, welcoming atmosphere with deep-rooted community relationships that foster a sense of belonging.

      • Affordability: Not just affordable housing, but an overall cost of living that offers more financial flexibility.

      • Culture & Diversity: A thriving arts and cultural scene, supported by regular events and a strong network that celebrates diversity.

This session was the first step toward establishing a standing committee that will work to implement the key initiatives discussed by the group.

For more information or to get involved in these efforts, please contact the Williams Lake & District Chamber of Commerce.

A sincere thank you to all participants for their invaluable contributions toward shaping the future of Williams Lake.
